The Ionian Island Birth Marriage & Death
Indexes are now complete as far as possible. I have no access to the Military
Baptisms for the entries between Sturton & Walker and after Willan.
The Ionian Islands were under British Rule from
1818 to 1864 and three Registers of Births Marriages and Deaths were maintained
during this period. These were for Civil events, Military events and Returns
made by Chaplains in the Islands.
The information contained within the
registers is as limited as that in the GRO Index itself for this period, but the
numbers concerned are relatively small. The pages are tabular, so by
using the tables you can sort them by names and references to find out who
married whom. If you know your man was out in Corfu or Kefalonia, then there's a
good chance that this could be him. You'll never know if you don't try though
!
They are free to use, and available to anyone with a program to
view them. Bearing in mind the time taken to do these, I'd appreciate it if you
were to ask me to get the certificate for you, but that is not for me to decide.
