DESCRIPTION OF ENUMERATION DISTRICT

All the part of the Parish of Ashton Under Lyne bounded in the Northeast by an imaginary
line to be drawn from Prospect Cottage to the Junction of Mr Whittaker's Queen Street Higher Hurst with the
Highway from Mossley to Ashton, and consequently including Hurst Knowl, and that portion of
Hurst Brook which is bounded on the West by and including Hillgate Strt and on the East and South
by the Ashton Town Division and which includes all Houses on the East side of Hillgate Strt between that
Street and the Ashton Town's Division and also Hurst Knowl and Pot Houses.
This district is comprised of Houses, principally the lowest class of cottage property, the whole of which are
without numbers. Consequently the numbers in the 2nd column are not the numbers of the Houses, but
the progressive number of delivering the Schedules. The schedules correspond with them but
altho' there are only 230 Schedules, they are numbered to 231. Through an oversight there
is not one of the number 225. By entering them where Speed Tenter, Frame Tenter, Lap Reeler
&C occurred, I have copied them as Card Room Hand, all these being in that employment. Minder
Self Actor, Throttle Spinner I have likewise entered as Cotton Spinner by the same rule.
