Hurst Local Board

Hurst Local Board was founded in 1861, and appropriately enough its offices were on Board Street in Hurst. Sadly it was absorbed into the Borough of Ashton Under Lyne in 1927 and subsequently into Tameside in 1974 during which time it has become almost a poor relation. The area has gone from a lovely little village with a couple of mills to an area which now needs a great deal spending on it. With the current regime in their ivory tower in Ashton, I cannot see this being forthcoming in the near future.

These pages however are devoted to the good times with anecdotes from the Board Minutes.

I hope you will find them enjoyable.
